Bio 216 Sp2024: presentation of viral antigens
Bio 216 Sp2024: presentation of viral antigens
Student teams worked to animate the presentation of viral antigens to a cytotoxic T cell.
Steps involved in this process:
1. Virus infects the cell
2. Viral antigens are packaged into MHC I and presented on the cell surface
3. CD8 cell recognizes the viral antigen (using T-cell receptor) and the MHC I (using its CD8 molecule)
4. CD8 cell releases granzymes and perforin
5. Perforin makes pores in the infected cell membrane, and granzymes enter the infected cell. The cell is destroyed through cell apoptosis and lysis.
